Meet Our Preschool Instructional Staff
Paula Michelsen, Director, Head Teacher: Friday AM Class
Mrs. Paula Michelsen has been the Head Teacher of both Beginner and Pre-K classes at North Kitsap Preschool for over 30 years. "Ms. Paula" (as the students like to call her) has been the Director since 1984, utilizing her professional education from Stanford University: a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Psychology and Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Ms. Paula is a published author and former ASPO Lamaze Instructor. Ms. Paula and her husband Joe have lived in Kitsap County, raising their two children and attending Gateway Fellowship (CMC), since 1979. Recent Grandparents to two adorable granddaughters, Ms. Paula and Mr. Joe enjoy calling Poulsbo home.
Jenny Lindquist, Pre-Kindergarten Head Teacher: M-W-F PM Classes
Ms. Jenny Lindquist begins her twentieth year here, and is our very capable Head Teacher for our Accelerated Pre-K Class. Having spent several years as an Early Childhood Day Care and Sunday School Teacher, Ms. Jenny chose to join our staff in Early Childhood Education. We are fortunate to have her with us, sharing her Northwest College B.A. degree experience with our staff and students. Jenny will be our Head Teacher in the Pre-Kindergarten Afternoon Transition Class. Jenny resides in Poulsbo with her husband, David, and has attended CMC, now Gateway Fellowship, since 1985. Ms. Jenny is a gifted Bible story teacher and loves to share her Faith with her students.
Tina Johnston, Pre-Kindergarten Head Teacher: T-TH AM and T-TH PM Classes
Mrs. Tina Johnston gladly begins her fifth year with NKPS, as Head Teacher of our T-TH Pre-K Classes and assists in our other classes. Having worked for many years as a full-time Preschool Teacher, Ms. Tina is an experienced teacher, having earned her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and having taught over 10 years with Kindercare Organization in Silverdale, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. She and her family make their home in Poulsbo and attend Gateway Fellowship. We are blessed to have Ms. Tina on our NKPS Team.
Stacey Fishel, Pre-Kindergarten Head Teacher: M-W AM Class
Mrs. Stacey Fishel happily begins her fifth year with NKPS, as Head Teacher in our M-W AM Class. Ms. Stacey earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Marketing from Western Washington University in 1992. She and her family make their home in Poulsbo and attend North Kitsap Baptist Church, where she has been actively involved with the children's ministries. We are blessed to have Ms. Stacey on staff. When Ms. Paula is absent, Ms. Stacey will be the FRI AM Head Teacher.
Fran Larrabee, Beginner Class Teacher Assistant and M-W AM Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Fran Larrabee has had over twenty-five years of experience teaching preschool students in both Day Care and Preschool, and has earned an AA degree in Early Childhood Education from Olympic College. Ms. Fran has been a Teacher for NKPS for over ten years and will join our Beginner Class Staff for a thirteenth year this Fall. Ms. Fran lives in Kingston with her husband, Larry, attends Redeemer United Methodist Church, is a Mother of eight, and a loving Grandmother and Great-Grandmother! Ms. Fran loves children and they love her!
Maria Yates, Pre-Kindergarten and Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Maria Yates begins her eighth year with NKPS, teaching in both Pre-K and Beginner classes. Originally from the Philippines, Ms. Maria speaks three languages and is a licensed Nursing Assistant. We are blessed by her personal warmth and enthusiasm for working with children. Ms. Maria has a true Servant's Heart. The Yates family resides in Silverdale and attends St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo.
Elizabeth Martin, Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Beth Martin begins her fourth year at NKPS, assistant teaching in our Friday AM Class. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 2000, Edmonds Community College in 2003, and Northwest University in 2005 with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Youth Ministry. Ms. Beth has been the Nursery/Preschool Coordinator at North Kitsap Baptist Church since February 2009. She and her husband Jonathan have been married for seven years and have three young daughters. Shelby Alford, Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Shelby Alford begins her third year, working with NK Preschool students and parents in the Friday AM Class. Ms. Shelby studied Communications and Biblical Studies at The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California, before her marriage to Mr. Nick Alford (a former NKPS student) who works in construction with Alford Homes, and as a Pastor in training of Free Grace Baptist Church in Poulsbo. The Alford family makes Poulsbo their home. Welcome, Ms. Shelby!
Stacie Ann Leage, Pre-Kindergarten Team Head Teacher and Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Stacie Ann Leage begins her third year, teaching in most of our Preschool classes! Ms. Stacie Ann and her family live in Poulsbo and attend Gateway Fellowship. Ms. Stacie Ann is currently working toward earning a degree in Early Childhood Education from Liberty University. She is excited to share her love of learning and her love of her Lord Jesus Christ with the students here at NKPS. Ms. Stacie Ann is an experienced Fitness Trainer and Yoga Instructor, having worked at Kitsap County Athletic Clubs, with both children and adults. This year, Ms. Stacie Ann is excited to be "Team Teaching" as Head Teacher with Ms. Tina in our Tues/Thurs PM Prek-K class. We welcome Ms. Stacie Ann to our NKPS Teaching Team!
Charlene Blanford, Pre-Kindergarten and Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Charlene Blanford begins her third year at NKPS, teaching in most of our Preschool Classes. Ms. Charlene has had approximately 20 years of teaching experience in preschool and day care settings. We are blessed to have her on our NKPS Team, and the students and staff alike enjoy working with her. Ms. Charlene and her husband attend Gateway Fellowship and make their home in Hansville. Darlene Franco, Pre-Kindergarten and Beginner Class Teacher Assistant
Ms. Darlene Franco begins her third year teaching at NKPS, assisting in all of our Preschool Classes. Ms. Darlene began teaching at NKPS with thanks to her identical twin sister, Ms. Charlene! Ms. Darlene joins our Staff having worked at Christian day care and preschool settings for many years. Ms. Darlene and her family attend Olympic View Assembly of God and make their home in Port Gamble. Welcome, Ms. Dar!
Brent Anderson, Pre-Kindergarten Head Teacher T-TH PM Class & Beginner Class Teacher Assistant, Summer Enrichment Sport Specialist
Mr. Brent Anderson has been on staff over 2 years as a Head Teacher and as a Teacher Assistant bringing enthusiasm and energy to our preschool classes. Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Youth Service from Western Baptist College, Mr. Brent has utilized this background working as the Unit Director of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County for over five years. We are glad Mr. Brent decided to leave his next position at Boeing as an Engineering Scheduler to become a Home Parent and an NKPS Teacher. Our students especially enjoyed working with Mr. Brent this past summer as our NKPS Sport Specialist for our Summer Enrichment program. Mr. Brent and his wife and four sons attend Gateway Fellowship and make Kingston their home. We are blessed by Mr. Brent's encouraging smiles and his love of leading youth to know Jesus. Thank you, Mr. Brent, for sharing your love of early childhood education and physical fitness with our Staff, students and parents! You are a vital part of our NKPS Team!
Judy Drummond, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Assistant
Ms. Judy joins our NKPS Staff this year as a Teachers Assistant in our Friday AM Beginner Class and as on-call Substitute Teacher in our Pre-K classes. Judy is very experienced and comes to NKPS highly recommended, having worked in North Kitsap Schools for 30 years as a Para Educator in Speech, Preschool, and Special Education departments. She and her husband Jim reside in Poulsbo, and attend church on Bainbridge. Judy is the proud Grandmother of two NKPS students. Welcome, Ms. Judy!
